PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a belt tension detector for stably and linearly detecting a tension acting on a webbing belt. SOLUTION: When a longitudinal tension acts on a belt, a pair of circular magnets 12 and 14 are turnedly displaced in directions opposite to each other according to the belt tension to change detection signals of a Hall element sensor 20 disposed in an opposition gap between the circular magnets 12 and 14. The tension longitudinally acting on the belt can be detected based on the detection signals. The belt tension detector is thereby caused to be less affected by the displacement of the circular magnets 12 and 14 or of the element sensor 20, making possible measurement with stable detection accuracy. Moreover, since magnetic flux is formed uniformly and rectilinearly in the opposition gap between the pair of circular magnets 12 and 14 (the disposition position of the element sensor 20), a linear (uniform and linear) output characteristic can be resultantly obtained over a wide range (the angular range of turning displacement of the pair of circular magnets 12 and 14).
