<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus with which the performance of an image carrier can be easily recovered by a simple configuration, by polishing the surface of the image carrier without using a polishing sheet or causing nonuniform wear or excessive wear, thereby securely removing a deteriorating surface layer or foreign matter sticking to the surface layer. <P>SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus includes: a conveying speed control means 68 for controlling a conveying speed V1 for the surface layer of an image carrier 48a; a conveying speed control means 70 for controlling a conveying speed V2 for a recording medium P that is in contact with the image carrier 48a; a transfer-period speed ratio control means 72 for exerting control so that a speed ratio H between the conveying speed V1 and the conveying speed V2 is set to a speed ratio H0 for the transfer of a developer image to the recording medium; and a polish-period speed ratio control means 74 for exerting control so that the speed ratio H between the conveying speed V1 and the conveying speed V2 is set to a speed ratio H1 different from the transfer-period speed ratio H0, thereby polishing the surface layer of the image carrier by the recording medium. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
