PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a benzene chloride by feeding chlorine into liquid benzene to react benzene with chlorine which has an excellent characteristic feature such that part or all of a large amount of the heat of reaction generated by chlorination of benzene is removed without using a large amount of a cooling agent to control the temperature of a reactor. SOLUTION: The method for producing a benzene chloride by supplying chlorine into liquid benzene to react benzene with chlorine comprises controlling the temperature of the reactor by vaporizing unreacted benzene with the use of the generated heat of reaction to remove it from the reaction system. Chlorine is supplied into liquid benzene to react benzene with chlorine, and as the catalyst for reacting benzene with chlorine, a Lewis acid including, for example, an iron powder, ferric chloride, iodine, aluminum chloride, antimony pentachloride, and various metal chlorides, a solid acid such as zeolite and silica-alumina can be used.
