<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an improved high pressure discharge lamp and a lighting system. <P>SOLUTION: A problem concerning the high pressure discharge lamp is solved by connecting a current supply portion projected from an end of a discharge envelope, which is distant from a base, with an electromagnetic shield portion.
