The cross-cutting device has at least one cutter (14) to cut sections from a material web (04) guided round a transporting cylinder (01), cutting at a defined cutting point, and at least one endless chain (07), at least partly round the cylinder, to guide the material web. There are two pressing devices at minimum spacing round the cylinder, permitting cutter unhindered passage between them.
