PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a transmission type screen emitting video light of high contrast. SOLUTION: The transmission type screen includes; a plurality of simple lenses which are arrayed in a plane on an incidence face on which video light is made incident, and have focuses in the vicinity of an exit face of the transmission type screen; incidence-side light shielding layers which are formed on lens boundaries between adjacent simple lenses and intercept image light impinging on the lens boundaries; and exit-side light shielding layer which have openings having optical axes of simple lenses as centers formed in the vicinity of the exit face of the transmission type screen and in the vicinity of respective focuses of the plurality of simple lenses.
