PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display apparatus showing little changes in a color tone observed in a high grayscale level and a low grayscale level. SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display apparatus 100 includes: a liquid crystal panel 121 containing a liquid crystal layer 103 with homogeneous alignment; a backlight light source 120 to emit light toward the liquid crystal panel 121; and a control circuit 122 to control the emission intensity of the backlight light source 120. The backlight light source 120 has an emission intensity peak in each wavelength region corresponding to red, green and blue. The control circuit 122 controls to decrease the peak value of emission intensity in the wavelength region corresponding to blue in the emission intensities of the backlight light source 120 in a low grayscale level compared to the peak in a high grayscale level so that displayed colors are prevented from shifting toward a blue region.
