Elevator system with braking unit and method to keep the elevator stopped

Lift has brake mechanism (13) which contains two brake units (14) with normal force regulator (16) which determines effective normal force. Locking mechanism can lock brake unit in adjusted brake position, according to effective normal force, and which maintains adjusted brake position with interrupted energy input. An independent claim is also included for the method for braking and holding a lift.
