Apparatus for applying carrier cartons to bottles in crates

A method for fitting cardboard carriers onto groups of bottles in crates, e.g. to form six packs or eight packs, has the crates moved along a conveyor belt (2) past carrier fitting stations (3) each mounted on an overhead frame (5). The fitting stations have grip frames which are pushed to locate and align the crates while an automatic system picks prefabricated carriers from magazines and pushes them onto the bottle groups. The processed crates are discharged onto an output conveyor.
