AUSTENITIC STAINLESS STEEL

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing an austenitic stainless steel having superior stress corrosion cracking resistance. SOLUTION: The austenitic stainless steel has chromium carbides selectively and harmonizingly precipitated in a grain boundary, and substantially no chromium-depleted zone in the vicinity of the grain boundary. The manufacturing method includes: solution heat-treating austenitic stainless steel; sensitizing it to harmonizingly precipitate chromium carbides; and subjecting it to recovery treatment for making the chromium-depleted zone in the vicinity of the grain boundary disappear.
