POLYPHENYLENE SULFIDE RESIN, PROCESS FOR PRODUCING THE SAME, AND FIBER COMPRISING THE SAME

A polyphenylene sulfide resin which comprises one having undergone a thermal oxidization treatment and satisfies the following. When the resin is melted in vacuum by heating at 320°C for 2 hours, the amount of gases volatilizing during this heating is 0.23 wt.% or smaller. When the resin is dissolved in a 20-fold amount by weight of 1-chloronaphthalene at 250°C for 5 minutes and this hot solution is filtered under pressure through a PTFE membrane filter having a pore size of 1 µm, then the amount of the residue is 3.0 wt.% or smaller. The resin has a melt flow rate (in accordance with ASTM D-1238-70; temperature, 315.5°C; load, 5,000 g) of 100-500 g/10 min, excluding 100 g/10 min.
