摘要 <p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To set valve timing of an intake valve when beginning start of an engine to the most phase lag without worsening fuel economy to suppress a shock caused when beginning start of the engine. <P>SOLUTION: A variable valve gear 25 for changing valve timing of the intake valve 20 is driven by an electric motor 26 being a driving source separate from the engine 1. For this reason, even if rotation speed of the engine is reduced after starting stop of the engine 1, the variable valve gear 25 can be driven without being affected by it. Accordingly, valve timing of the intake valve 20 lags up to the most phase lag timing securely by driving the variable valve gear 25 so that valve timing of the intake valve 20 lags after starting stop of the engine to avoid occurrence of shock at the next time of engine start. When stopping operation of the engine 1, it is unnecessary to change valve timing in idle operation to the most phase lag timing before starting stop of the engine. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI</p>
