There are few studies related to the treatment of wastewaters resulting from tequila, mezcal and the like vinasses reporting results that allow a qualified liquid complying with official standards to be obtained and which may be discharged in reservoirs without damaging the environment. The present invention discloses a treatment process including the following stages: a) a physicochemical pre-treatment consisting in a dosed addition of chemical agents for promoting the setting phenomenon, thus eliminating part of the solids suspended on vinasses; b) an advanced biological treatment performed in an anaerobian reactor having a mud bed and an upstream flow, the anaerobian mud being adapted to vinasses; said treatment is useful for transforming the soluble organic and particulate matter (COD and BOD5) into biogas (CO2 + CH4), an innocuous clarified effluent and a residual mud; c)a post-treatment performed in artificial marshes by two cells, the first cell comprising aquatic lily (Eichorn ia crassipes) connected to a second packed cell sown with para and vetiver grasses (Panicuma purpurascens y Vetiveria zizanioides); d) a disinfected process for removing microorganisms which is incorporated into the stages a) and b) by means of a chemical agent which reduces the MPN of microorganisms, thus leaving the effluent ready to be discharged into soil and water reservoirs.
