PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an air conditioner capable of preventing stagnation of liquid refrigerant in an outdoor heat exchanger even at a low outside air temperature such as winter. SOLUTION: In this air conditioner comprising an outdoor unit comprising a compressor for compressing a refrigerant and a plurality of outdoor heat exchangers, a plurality of indoor heat exchangers connected with the outdoor unit by a low-pressure gas pipe, a high-pressure gas pipe and a liquid pipe, and exchanging heat between the refrigerant from the high-pressure gas pipe or the liquid pipe and the indoor air, and a control portion for deciding an operating state of the outdoor heat exchangers and the number of outdoor heat exchangers to be operated, the control portion prohibits an operation pattern wherein all of the outdoor heat exchangers are in a state of evaporator standby, and an operation pattern where one of the outdoor heat exchanger is operated as a condenser under a condition less than rating, and the other outdoor heat exchanger is in a state of evaporator standby, when the outside air temperature is lower than a prescribed value, and the temperature difference obtained by subtracting a refrigerant saturation temperature under suction pressure of the compressor, from the outside air temperature is less than a prescribed value.
