PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily and efficiently input a character string other than kana and kanji. SOLUTION: When Japanese input is performed in a cellular phone, a candidate list screen in which conversion candidates according to an input character string of hiragana are mixed with character type candidates 52 and 55 designating post-conversion of the input character string to a specified character type is formed. The character type candidate 52 simply designates conversion to a numerical character string or alphabetic character string, while the character type candidate 55 designates conversion to a character string having a specified meaning such as "date" or "time". When either character type candidate is selected, the candidate list screen is switched, and conversion candidates in which a character string of a character type corresponding to the designated candidate displayed in different display forms are displayed.
