PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a dishwasher equipped with an elevating and lowering means which has a simple structure and makes stable elevating and lowering movements. SOLUTION: The dishwasher has an outer frame body, a washing chamber moving in and out of the outer frame body by moving back and forth, a guide means guiding to move the washing chamber in and out of the outer frame body, a dish basket placed in the washing chamber, and the elevating and lowering means elevating and lowering the dish basket vertically. The elevating and lowering means characteristically has a freely rotating rotary rod which is provided transversely in the washing chamber and has a spiral thread, two transversely moving members which are screwed with the spiral threads of the rotary rod and move transversely in a manner to get closer or apart by the rotations of the rotary rod, two link members which have one end movably connected to the transversely moving member and the other end movably connected to the side of the dish basket, and a driving means for driving to rotate the rotary rod.
