PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lamp holding device made easy to apply an insertion work of an end part of an external electrode fluorescent lamp having an insulation sheet wound around a peripheral face thereof, capable of surely holding an end part of the lamp. SOLUTION: An indentation of terminal part of the insulation sheet 5 wound around outermost circumference of the external electrode fluorescent lamp is made so as to be released into a run-off part 14 when inserting a lamp end 1A into a lamp end insertion hole 12A of a receiving member 12, in spite that the diameter of the lamp end insertion hole is formed nearly same as that of the lamp, and it is enabled to surely hold the end part of the lamp.
