PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a speed governor for an elevator capable of reducing the size and improving operation accuracy. SOLUTION: In this speed governor for the elevator, a governor sheave 4 is rotatably supported in a case 2. An endless governor rope 5 connected with a car is wound around and hung on the outer peripheral part of the governor sheave 4. A speed detection switch 8 is installed in the vicinity of the governor sheave 4. In the governor sheave 4, a flyweight 7 constituted by combining a plurality of members is rotatably supported, and is rotated due to centrifugal force when the governor sheave 4 is rotated. A switch operation part 8 abutting on and operating the speed detection switch 8 when the rotational speed of the governor sheave 4 exceeds a predetermined value is provided above the flyweight 7.
