<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem that a conventional clamp circuit configuration causes the black level depression of the entire image pickup signal following an erroneous black level greatly deviated from a proper OB level when blooming occurs, and also, it takes an extremely long time to return to a normal OB level, even after eliminating the blooming of an image pickup element as the result of following the erroneous black level greatly deviated from the proper OB level, and consequently, a black level depression state continues during the return time in an image pickup device. <P>SOLUTION: The image pickup device has a detection means for detecting abnormalities of an optical black level.
