PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize a structure designed to arrange for sufficient protection of the driver by means of an airbag, irrespective of difference in physical constitution or driving posture of the driver. SOLUTION: On the occasion of a collision accident, a release-use actuator 20 revolves a release lever 17, lifting the fixation of a supported bracket 11 in relation to the supporting bracket 9. In this state, a steering column 8 moves forward, creating a necessary gap between the airbag, which has expanded at the steering wheel portion, and the driver. The volume of forward movement of the steering column 8 is adjusted in accordance with the physical constitution of the driver through adjustment means 21, consisting of a stopper 26 and actuator 27.
