PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an engine having a reduced size while offering construction with a hydraulic tensioner on a cylinder head. SOLUTION: The engine comprises a crank case 19, a cylinder body 20, the cylinder head 18, a crank shaft 5, cam shafts 2, 3, an endless transmission belt (a timing chain 4) for transmitting the rotation of the crank shaft 5 to the cam shafts 2, 3, and the hydraulic tensioner 28 for imparting tension to the endless transmission belt. On the side of the cylinder head 18, a mounting portion 42 is formed on which the hydraulic tensioner 28 is mounted. An oil passage hole 62 via which oil is supplied to the hydraulic tensioner 28 is formed to be connected to the mounting portion 42 across a mating face between the cylinder body 20 and the cylinder head 18. The oil passage hole 62 is formed between the mating face and the hydraulic tensioner 28 in inclination from the mating face to the center side of the cylinder. COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI
