PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recording medium covering apparatus which is constituted so as not only to continuously form a cover layer to a plurality of recording media fed so as to leave a constant interval but also to form a cover layer to recording media having a plurality of widths without replacing a cover sheet and can perform good lamination even to paper different in kind. SOLUTION: The covering apparatus is equipped with a cover layer forming means 8 for pressurizing the cover sheet C and an auxiliary sheet E, both of which hold the recording media A, from both surfaces thereof to form the cover layer to the surface of the auxiliary sheet E of the surfaces and peripheries of the recording media A and a cover layer heating and pressurizing means 10 for heating and pressurizing the recording media A having the cover layer formed thereto, and operation state is selectively switched between two states, that is, a cover layer retreatment state performing the heating and pressurization by the means 10 and a non-heat treatment state not performing the heating and pressurization.
