The method involves filtering left, right and top edges of a block, where the left edge is perpendicular to the top edge, and the right edge is parallel to the left edge. Neighbor block pixel data is pre-fetched to a register array, and current block pixel data is pre-fetched to another register array. Boundary strength of the current edge is found in response to the pre-fetched neighbor and current pixel data. Independent claims are also included for the following: (A) a pipelined deblocking filter for filtering blocks of pixel data (B) a program storage device comprising a set of instructions to perform a method for filtering blocks of pixel data.
