A patterning assembly 161, Figs. 3, 5, 6 and 7 is mounted in a circular machine so as to be readily removable to enable adjustments to be made to it and to facilitate access to the needle cylinder the construction being such that the subsequent remounting does not require retiming of the mechanism with the cylinder. Two assemblies are provided in the machine and each comprises a pattern drum 61 mounted between top and bottom bed plates 162, 163 on a shaft 165. The drum is provided with jacks 100 which engage levers 101 controlling a bank of slides 51 which are normally resiliently urged upwardly to engage needle jacks to effect selection of the needles. The levers 101 are pivoted at 102 so that the jacks 100 in the drum cause the levers to withdraw their corresponding slides. The slides are also controlled in groups by stops 111 on sliding bar 112 which each engage the tail ends 105 of a group of slides when projected to pivot the levers 101 and cause the corresponding slides 51 to be withdrawn from action. The stops 111 are controlled by the bars 112 having projections 117 which are engageable by levers 116 controlled by push rods 115 from a lower pattern drum. The bars 112 are mounted on a support 113 also carrying the levers 116 and which support is mounted between the bed plates 162, 163. The pattern drum is rotated by pawl and ratchet mechanism 76, 77, 78, 79 from a cam on the cylinder the driving gear actuating levers 72, 73 coupled to levers 74, 75 carrying the pawls 76, 77. A pawl control stop mechanism is provided comprising a member 95 which influences the pawls and prevents rotation of the drum. The member 95 is coupled by linkwork 91 .. 94 to be controlled by a cam drum. Consequently when it is desired to remove the pattern drum assembly screws 166 receiving the bed plates and the machine frame are released, the coupling screws 167, 168 between the levers 72, 73 and levers 74, 75 withdrawn and the assembly withdrawn as the levers 116 slide off the ends of the rods 115 and the pin and yoke coupling 94, 92 is broken between the control from the cam drum and the stop mechanism member 95. Access is then available to the needle cylinder. |
