PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of generating data which can identify each content without depending on information attached to each content, such as a broadcasting station and broadcasting time, etc., and a retrieval device using it. SOLUTION: The method of generating the data includes the steps of detecting a variable part from a first content data, generating a first feature vector showing the feature of the first content data based on the information showing each time point in which the characteristic state of the first content data that the variable part is deleted appears, and retrieving the first feature vector and similar feature vector from a plurality of feature vectors stored in a storage means for storing the feature vector and similar feature vector from a plurality of feature vectors stored in storage means for storing the feature vector which shows the feature of the content data generated based on information showing each time point in which the feature state of the content data appears corresponding to at least one of the content data and the metadate of the content data.
