<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To precisely detect the degree of opening of the eye (the iris) of a person to be detected even when lighting environments are degraded. <P>SOLUTION: A control unit 7 changes control conditions for image pickup by a CCD camera part 2 in accordance with position of driver's eyes by feedback control. Thus, even when a face of the driver is irradiated with light such as the sunlight, near infrared illumination light, illumination light of an oncoming car and when the lighting environments not preferable or the driver's face is not at the center of the image pickup area, face image data of the driver appropriate to eye opening detection processing are picked up stably, and the eye opening of the driver is precisely detected. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
