PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image recording apparatus which can surely stop a cutting means in a desired position without requiring a sensor detecting a position of the cutting means, and which can shorten a moving distance of the cutting means in the cutting of a recording medium and reduce a time until the recording medium is cut and divided. SOLUTION: This image recording apparatus comprises a detection means for detecting a position of a carriage 1 which moves in the state of being equipped with a recording head 1a, the cutting means 120 for cutting the recording medium 101, and a movement means for moving the cutting means along the recording medium. When stopping the cutting means moved by the movement means, the image recording apparatus controls the movement means by detecting the movement of the cutting means to a stop position by the position of the carriage.
