PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printer which can adaptively vary a transfer speed of a medium to be recorded within one scan so that a printing time that does not contribute to coloring is reduced, for all of printing lines in one scan, and to provide a printing control method and a program. SOLUTION: The printer is equipped with a thermal head for recording shading according to an electrification time length onto the medium by use of control of an electrification time impressed to each heating element. The printer is further equipped with a means which adaptively varies the transfer speed of the medium within one scan so that the printing time of one line is reduced in a range where the electrification time is not lower than that of the heating element to which the largest application energy is given at least in the present printing line.
