PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately detect the transition of a toner amount of the whole of a developer container not a toner amount at a limited part in the developer container. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus using a cartridge quipped with an image carrier having a photoreceptive layer, a developing carrier arranged to be opposed to the image carrier and carrying and conveying developing material, the developer container in which developer supplied to the developer carrier is stored, a stirring member arranged to be opposed to the image carrier in the container and stirring the developer, and a plurality of electrode members arranged to be straight or parallel with the developer carrier in the container has a plurality of applying means for applying individual AC bias to space between the image carrier and the electrode members and space between the plurality of electrode members, a control means for controlling the bias applying timing of the applying means, and a detection means for detecting a current value flowing into space between the developer carrier and the electrode members and the space between the plurality of electrode members from the plurality of applying means controlled by the control means.
