PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus which reliably prevents an image defect caused by local abnormal discharge, prevents decrease in smoothness of a transfer paper sheet and forms a high-quality image without a void and transfer irregularity. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus is equipped with: an image forming unit having an image carrying body to develop an electrostatic latent image formed based on image information into a toner image; an intermediate transfer body where the toner image on the image carrying body is transferred; a contact transfer means, opposing to the intermediate transfer body, to transfer the toner image on the intermediate transfer body onto a transfer paper sheet by electrostatic force; and a fixing device to fix the toner image transferred onto the transfer paper sheet, wherein the image forming apparatus is equipped with a coating device to apply a solid dielectric substance on the transfer paper sheet.
