PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a water heater capable of making a hot water temperature quickly follow a target temperature by properly adjusting the maximum entered-water quantity to a heat exchanger according to an operation condition of the water heater when hot-water supply is started or the entered-water quantity is increased. SOLUTION: A hot-water supply control means 25 sets the maximum entered-water quantity based on the maximum heating quantity correction value obtained by subtracting a heat-exchange endothermic quantity being a heat quantity absorbed by a heat exchanger 4 from the maximum heating quantity of a burner 3 out of a heat quantity supplied from the burner 3, and a temperature difference between an entered-water temperature and the target temperature. A heat-exchange endothermic quantity calculation means 26 calculates the heat-exchange endothermic quantity based on the present temperature of the heat exchanger 4 and an ordinary temperature being a temperature of the heat exchanger 4 when the hot water temperature is continuously controlled by the hot-water supply control means 25 so as to be set at the target temperature and the temperature of the heat exchanger 4 is set nearly constant.
