PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a refrigerator improved in storing performance and usability of an upper stage of the refrigerator, and to improve its appearance, in the refrigerator where a compressor is loaded on a recessed portion of a top face of the refrigerator. SOLUTION: The compressor 11 is mounted in the recessed portion 27 recessed to an uppermost storage space 29a side in a storage compartment over a top face 23 and a back face 28a of a box main body 1, the compressor 11 is a reciprocating type wherein an electric element 110 composed of a stator 112 and a rotator 111, and a compression element 113 stored in a sealed case 103, a compression element side of the rotator 111 has a rotator recessed portion 111a, a bearing portion 135 of the compression element is extended in the rotator recessed portion 111a, the electric element 110 is an invertor drive electric motor operated with a plurality of rotational frequencies, and a permanent magnet 151 is used in the rotator 111, thus a height of the compressor is reduced to make a top portion of the compressor 11 lower than the top face 23 of the box main body 1.
