HIGH PRESSURE PUMP FOR FUEL INJECTION SYSTEM WITH FLOW CONTROL DEVICE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a high pressure fuel pump with a flow control device, having high reliability and cost effectiveness for overcoming defects of a prior-art fuel pump.

SOLUTION: The high pressure pump 7 comprises a plurality of pump elements 18 to be operated with reciprocating motion in corresponding suction and discharge strokes. Each pump element 18 has a corresponding suction valve 25 communicated with a suction pipe 10 for supply from a low pressure pump 9. An on-off solenoid valve 27 is installed in the suction pipe 10. It has a flow amount reduced to substantially the same order as the maximum amount of fuel to be injected by a fuel injector 5. The on-off solenoid valve 27 is intermittently controlled in synchronization with an intermediate portion (TSTART-TEND) in the suction stroke of each pump element 18.
