PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain carbon black that is mixed with rubber, a plastic, a paste for batteries or an inorganic substance so as to provide them remarkably high electroconductivity and a highly electroconductive composition by mixing the low electroconductive substance with the carbon black. SOLUTION: The carbon black has 170-250 m<SP>2</SP>/g nitrogen-adsorbing specific surface area (N<SB>2</SB>SA), 140-200 mg<SP>2</SP>/g CTAB (cethyltrimethyl ammonium bromide) adsorption specific surface area, the total (ΣHc) of amount of generated hydrogen gas of carbon black obtained by a temperature step method of≤2,400 ppm, the ratio Hc (1,100)/Hc (1,600) of hydrogen gas amount Hc (1,100) generated at 1,100°C±50°C to hydrogen gas amount Hc (1,600) generated at 1,600°C±50°C of≤0.5.
