<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus which has an extension in life of a light source by suppressing a deterioration in power of a laser beam, prevents erroneous operation by suppressing a deterioration in a synchronous signal detection sensor, and has an extension in the life of the synchronous signal detection sensor. <P>SOLUTION: This image forming apparatus 1 comprises a synchronous sensor 244 for reading synchronous timings of laser beams La1, Lb-Ld, laser control units 42a-42d for controlling the laser beams La1, Lb-Ld, laser beam scanner units 227a-227d for forming latent images on photosensitive drums 222a-222d according to image information, and image forming stations Pa-Pd for forming developer images, and then transfers the developer images formed on the photosensitive drums 222a-222d to a recording paper.
