The method involves detaching plates from a plate conveyor (1) by generating a back pressure at a plate upper side. The plates are moved to a position from the conveyor by a stacking table (3) and isolated from the table by release of the back pressure and/or mechanical pressure on the side against effect of the back pressure on a plate table. The stacking table is lowered after stacking each plate around a plate diameter. An independent claim is also included for a device for stacking of plates that are guided on a plate conveyor.
