The fan wheel (1) has a base plate (2) and a number of attached fan blades (3) extending perpendicular to the base plate, each having a radially outwards front edge (4), a radially inwards rear edge (5), an inner surface and an outer surface (6), provided with a projection (7) extending diagonally between the front and rear edges. The projection has a height and width of between 1 and 10 mm and a spacing of between 5 and 25 mm from the base plate at the front edge.
