The radial magnetic bearing for machinery has a set of ring magnets (1) on the rotor and stator. The magnets are arranged to minimize effects of irregularities in individual magnetic fields. Each magnet ring produces a N-S asymmetry vector (11), and the vectors of adjacent rings may be of opposite signs to cancel each other. The magnetic field may be measured at two symmetrically arranged points (N1,S1) or (N2,S2). NS asymmetry = (N-S)/(N+S). |
