The invention relates to a method for the coding of a sequence of images, in which each of the images is associated with (i) a basic mesh formed by a set of faces that are defined by a set of vertices and edges and (ii) coefficients in a base of wavelets corresponding to local modifications to the basic mesh, known as wavelet coefficients. The inventive method comprises the following steps: coding (61) of the basic mesh and the wavelet coefficients associated with at least one reference image from the sequence of images; temporal prediction (63) of at least some of the wavelet coefficients which are associated with at least one current image from the image sequence, as a function of the wavelet coefficients associated with at least one preceding and/or following image from the image sequence, such as to supply predicted wavelet coefficients; determination of difference information (64) between the predicted wavelet coefficients and the corresponding real wavelet coefficients; and coding of said difference information.
