1,220,196. Zeolite molecular sieve agglomerates. UNION CARBIDE CORP. 16 July, 1969 [17 July, 1968], No. 35804/69. Heading B1L. Shatter resistant agglomerates which are especially suitable for drying hot gases comprise on a dry weight basis (a) 5-95%, preferably at least 75%, of a zeolitic molecular sieve, and (b) 95-5% of a matrix consisting of 2-90% fibrous asbestos, suitably chrysotile, and 98-10% of a clay, of which latter at least 10% is bentonite type. The molecular sieve may comprise any natural or synthetic zeolite, but zeolites Type A, T, X and Y are preferred. The clay is preferably entirely bentonite, but other clays, notably attapulgite, may be present to the extent of up to 90% of the total clay. The agglomerates are suitably produced by admixing water with the constituents to produce a pliable moulded mass in pellet form, heating the pellets to 90-400‹C to dry them, and then calcining at above 400‹C. |
