PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus in which job activation is accelerated and FCOT is shortened as a result, and communication errors due to noise or the like is made to hardly occur therefore the reliability of an FCOT mode is improved. SOLUTION: When a user sets the parameter P<SB>0</SB>of a job on an operation panel 2, a controller 1 judges whether or not the set parameter P<SB>0</SB>is pertinent to the FCOT mode, and when judging that it is pertinent, transmits FCOT activation signals S<SB>1</SB>and S<SB>2</SB>through control lines 3b and 4b to an image input part 3 and an image output part 4, and also serially transmits parameters P<SB>1</SB>and P<SB>2</SB>through communication lines 3a and 4a to the image input part 3 and the image output part 4. When receiving the FCOT activation signals S<SB>1</SB>and S<SB>2</SB>, the image input part 3 and the image output part 4 immediately start, prior to a read operation and a printing operation, the standby operations therefor.
