PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging apparatus provided with a simple control system free from troubling a photographer, and also to provide the control method of the imaging apparatus. SOLUTION: The imaging apparatus including a display section openable/closable with respect to a main body part is characterized by including: an operating member provided to the shielded side of the main body part exposed in the opening state of the display section and for inputting the instruction of functions of the imaging apparatus; and a control means for detecting a depressing position on the display section by an operator and controlling the function of the imaging apparatus assigned to the operating member on the basis of the detected depressed position, when the display section is in a closed state with respect to the main body part and the operating member for inputting the instruction related to the function of the imaging apparatus is shielded.
