<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical amplifier capable of maintaining a prescribed gain tilt. <P>SOLUTION: The optical amplifier is provided with: an optical amplifier medium which has first and second terminals and to the first terminal of which a signal light is supplied; a first means for pumping the optical amplifier medium so as to let the optical amplifier medium to have an amplifier band including the wavelength of the signal light; a second means which is connected operatively to the first terminal of the optical amplifier medium and monitors a spectral characteristic of an amplified spontaneous emission light propagated through the optical amplifier medium in a direction reverse to the signal light; and a third means which controls the gain of the amplifier band so as to maintain the spectral characteristic. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
