<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inexpensive and simple NOx purifying device capable of effectively purifying NOx in an internal combustion engine of a diesel engine, a lean-burn gasoline engine or the like which discharges oxygen-excessive exhaust gas. <P>SOLUTION: The nitrogen oxide purifying device 1 is equipped with a nitrogen oxide purifying catalyst 20, a reducing agent adding means 30 for adding a reducing agent B for reducing nitrogen oxide onto the upstream side of the nitrogen oxide purifying catalyst 20, and a reducing agent generation means 40 for separating only a low carbon content from a light oil A to take the low carbon content as the reducing agent B. The reducing agent generation means 40 is equipped with a bypass passage 42 of exhaust gas E which communicates to an exhaust pipe 10, a control valve 44 for controlling inflow of exhaust gas e to the bypass passage 42, and a reducing agent generator 46 which receives fuel A from a fuel tank 50 for engine combustion and separates only the low carbon content in fuel by heat of the exhaust gas e so as to be supplied to a reducing agent tank 32 for storing the reducing agent B.
