PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a metal halide lamp easily jointing an arc tube and an outer tube and having sufficient adhesiveness while suppressing the omission of sodium. SOLUTION: In this metal halide lamp, a discharge medium comprising metallic halide containing at least sodium and rare gas is sealed in an arc tube part 11 forming a discharge space 111 and in a discharge space 111 of a translucent airtight container 1 having sealing parts 121, 122 formed at both ends of the arc tube part 11. Metal foils 21, 22 are sealed in the sealing parts 121, 122, and with one-side ends thereof a pair of electrodes 31, 32 whose other ends are disposed facing in the discharge space 111 are connected. An outer tube 7 is attached to the translucent airtight container 1 surrounding it. An insulation coating 8 is applied to the inner circumferential surface or the outer circumferential surface of the outer tube 7 to cover at least the arc tube part.
