PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a material for an organic EL element, which has high luminous efficiency, is driven at a low voltage, has a long life and excellent heat resistance and to provide a lighting apparatus and a display using the organic EL element. SOLUTION: The material for an organic electroluminescent element is represented by general formula (1) (R<SB>1</SB>and R<SB>2</SB>are each a hydrogen atom or a substituent group and R<SB>1</SB>and R<SB>2</SB>may be the same or different; n1 and n2 are each an integer of 0-3; R<SB>3</SB>, R<SB>4</SB>, R<SB>5</SB>and R<SB>6</SB>are each a hydrogen atom or a substituent group and may be the same or different; j, l, k and m are each an integer of 0-4; Ar<SB>1</SB>and Ar<SB>2</SB>are each an aromatic hydrocarbon group or an aromatic heterocyclic group and Ar<SB>1</SB>and Ar<SB>2</SB>are not the same; L is a connecting group or mere a simple direct bond).
