PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electric power steering device which does not give a driver a feeling of insecurity even if controlling such as assist restriction is carried out, by visually and acoustically informing the driver of a failure. SOLUTION: The electric power steering device computes a steering assisting command value on the basis of a torque signal, vehicular speed, and the like, and gives assisting force by a motor to a steering system on the basis of the steering assisting command value. The electric power steering device comprises an abnormality/fault detecting means for detecting abnormality/fault in the electric power steering system, an abnormality/fault degree distinguishing means for distinguishing the degree of the abnormality/fault, and a display means carrying out display according to a distinguished result of the abnormality/fault distinguishing means.
