PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a ruler for measuring a flangeway width which eliminates fluctuations in measured values by easily obtaining measured values with necessary accuracy by a simple shape and is small-sized to provide excellent portability. SOLUTION: The ruler 1b comprises a ruler body 10b which is an elliptic-fan-shaped plate surrounded by a radius in the direction of the minor axis of the ellipse, a radius in the direction of the major axis, and an arc of the ellipse and a scale 20b provided on a top face 11 of the ruler body 10b. The parts on the arc of the ellipse provided with the scale 20b are formed as peaks, while the parts between the peaks on a side face 13b of the arc of the ellipse are depressed. A fulcrum 12b of the ruler body 10b is brought into contact with a position for measuring a flangeway width on the side face of one rail. The ruler body 10b is then rotated about the fulcrum 12b toward the minor axis of the ellipse to bring a peak portion 131b on the side face 13b of the arc of the ellipse into contact with the side face of the other rail.
