PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an oil state detecting device for detecting the state of cutting oil in a more suitable position in an oil tank, and also to provide an oil state monitoring system more convenient to use. SOLUTION: This oil state detecting device 10 provided in the oil tank 20 in a machine tool includes: a strut part 10a; a float part 10b; and detection means 10e, 10f, wherein the detection means 10e, 10f are provided on the float part 10b, and the float part 10b can be moved along the strut part 10a by generating buoyancy in oil. The lower end or upper end of the strut part 10a may be provided with a fixing part 10g having a magnet. This oil state monitoring system includes: a transmitter for transmitting the detection results of the detection means of the oil state detecting device together with identification information through a communication line to a management device; and the management device storing the detection result in the storage means corresponding to the identification information.
