The fastening mechanism is attached to a suction cup which has a socket (12) and a rotatable ball (20). The ball has a number of recesses (21), a support member (23), and an inclined channel (13) with one end open to the outside and the other end connected to the socket. The fastening mechanism has a shaft (31) installed in the inclined channel, whereby the shaft has a free end and an end fitted in the one of the recesses in the ball. A flexibly sprung component is installed in the channel so that the shaft can be compressively inserted in one of the recesses in the ball.
